Eight reasons why water fluoridation has failed modern civilization

Monday, February 04, 2013 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) If you went up to the average person on the street today and tried to explain that most Americans drink, bathe in, and wash their dishes and clothes in an industrial waste product that is linked to causing endocrine disruption and cancer, you might be labeled a loon. But this is exactly what millions of city-dwellers do every day without realizing it, thanks to an outdated and completely unscientific public health intervention known as artificial water fluoridation.

Contrary to popular opinion, fluoridated water is not the dental health miracle that some government bureaucrats and conventional dentists still claim it is, and regular exposure to this noxious snake oil could slowly be poisoning you and your family. Here are eight solid and scientifically-backed reasons why water fluoridation is nothing to celebrate:

1) Water fluoridation has failed to reduce dental expenditures. Fluoride apologists have long claimed that forced water fluoridation would greatly reduce dental costs for everyone. But according to the data, dental expenditures have actually increased dramatically since the advent of water fluoridation back in the 1940s, as have the number of dental professionals, dental schools, and overall industry profits.

2) Water fluoridation has actually increased rates of tooth decay. Likewise, there has also been a steady increase in tooth decay rates across the country, despite the fact that nearly three-quarters of the U.S. population is now receiving fluoridated
water. Most of Europe and many other countries around the world do not fluoridate their water at all, and tooth decay rates in these areas are similar or even lower than they are in North America.

3) Water fluoridation has created an epidemic of dental fluorosis. Even the most devoted
fluoride apologist will admit that chronic exposure to fluoride can lead to a form of tooth decay known as dental fluorosis, which is marked by brown or white staining and corresponding mottling on teeth. It would be scientifically foolish to insist otherwise when acknowledging the fact that as many as 60 percent of all adolescents, and particularly those who live in fluoridated areas, now suffer from the permanent condition.

4) Water fluoridation is responsible for damaging bones, triggering arthritis. Back in 2006, the National Research Council (NRC) published a report showing that the federal government's maximum contaminant level for fluoride in water is a complete fraud. As it turns out, so-called "optimal" fluoride levels in water do not protect the health of children or adults, and regular exposure to fluoride in water can lead to brittle bones, pre-clinical skeletal fluorosis, and arthritis.

5) Children who drink fluoridated water develop lower IQs. According to information compiled by the fluoride awareness group Fluoride Action Network (FAN), at least 34 published studies have identified a link between fluoride exposure and reduced IQ levels. A recent review put together by researchers from Harvard University found that children living in fluoridated areas have 350 percent lower IQ levels on average compared to children living in non-fluoridated areas.

6) Fluoride calcifies the thyroid and pineal glands, two important hormone producers in the body. Another inconvenient fact about fluoride is that it binds to receptors throughout the endocrine system that are specifically reserved for actual nutrients. Fluoride has been shown to accumulate in both the thyroid and pineal glands, where it inhibits the normal production of hormones that regulate living systems throughout the body.

7) Fluoridated water is toxic to formula-fed babies. Did you know the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes fluoride as an "unapproved drug," which means those who receive it are being forcibly medicated against their will and without informed consent? Fluoridated water is particularly harmful for the development of formula-fed babies, who admittedly receive toxic doses of fluoride whenever their parents mix baby formula with fluoridated tap water.

8) The fluoride added to most water supplies is an industrial waste product that causes cancer. Unbeknownst to many is the fact that the fluoride chemicals added to most municipal water supplies are not naturally occurring elements in the earth, but rather waste byproducts of industrial production systems. Such chemicals have never been properly safety tested, and they most definitely do not benefit oral health in any way.

"The chemical used in over 90 percent of cities in North America are fluorosilicates," explains Dr. Hardy Limeback, a dentist and former head of preventive dentistry at the University of Toronto. Dr. Limeback used to support
water fluoridation, that is until he learned the truth about where it comes from and what it does to the human body. "[Fluorosilicates] are contaminated with cancer-causing arsenic and radioactive particles and have never been tested for safety in humans."

Delta Trout Force: Any Fisherman, Fisherwomen, or Fish Enthusiasts in Colorado or anywhere out there in the world?!

My friends from DU started this group called Delta Trout Force. Danny, Parker, and Cooper all have fantastic experience and are great people to consult on all that pertains to fishing. On their website they have everything from fish porn to gear reviews. They have conservation information and a whole bunch of other cool stuff, you gotta check it out! About a year or two I was lucky enough to be able to take part in a Delta Trout Force excursion on the Yampa River outside of Steamboat Springs.

Fishing Rock Star Danny Frank of DTF

From Delta Trout Force's website:
"Fly Fishing is the perfect combination of art and sport. Whether it is being able to successfully sight fish to pressured trout or the image of a long cast with nothing but snowcapped mountains and blue skies in the background, both require a certain amount of skill but also represent a type of beauty that many find cannot be matched. Similar to life, knowledge in fishing is the result of experience. Lessons are constantly learned but the overall reality of accepting the fact that there will always be some fish you just can't catch is a rite of passage the avid angler will eventually have to pass. This is one of the reasons a fisherman keeps fishing. No matter how big your biggest fish is, there is always one out there that can one up it.
Parker is a fellow Rock Star Fisherman of DTF

Fly Fishing can mean many different things to a lot of people. To some, it is more than a hobby, more than a challenge and more than a weekly escape. It becomes the reason behind what they do and who they are. Closely linked with the love of fly fishing comes a desire to protect these rivers we have grown so close with in order to preserve them for future generations to enjoy. Here is a view inside both the sport and art aspects of fly fishing that appeal to us--this is why we fly fish. Whatever the reason you are on this page, whether it is serving as a distraction at work from your task at hand or just a casual yet much needed reminder of the lifestyle you love. We hope it will help hold you over until you can get out on the water again. Enjoy what we take away from fly fishing. Send any questions or fish pictures to dannydfrank21@gmail.com"

With my last post about Juicing, it reminded me about this eye-opening documentary that I saw a year ago entitled The Gerson Miracle.

"The Gerson Therapy is a natural treatment that activates the body’s extraordinary ability to heal itself through an organic, vegetarian diet, raw juices, coffee enemas and natural supplements.

With its whole-body approach to healing, the Gerson Therapy naturally reactivates your body’s magnificent ability to heal itself – with no damaging side effects. This a powerful, natural treatment boosts the body’s own immune system to heal cancer, arthritis, heart disease, allergies, and many other degenerative diseases. Dr. Max Gerson developed the Gerson Therapy in the 1930s, initially as a treatment for his own debilitating migraines, and eventually as a treatment for degenerative diseases such as skin tuberculosis, diabetes and, most famously, cancer."

Mike's Organic Delivery Basket Contents week of 2/28
Kale
Broccoli
Portabella Mushrooms
Sweet Potatoes
Turnips
Rutabagas
Carrots
Kabocha Squash

The Gala apples this week were delicious. I juiced some of them with a few carrots, kale, ginger, and even a couple of parsnips. The parsnips added an uncoventional and somewhat creamy taste to the juice, it was great.

I sauteed the Broccoli, Portabella Mushrooms, Carrots, and Rutabaga with some olive oil, salt, and pepper. I then put the cooked and seasoned veggies, along with some rice noodles in veggie Pho broth. I love pho and its really not too difficult to make your own broth, but this time I just got it from the store. Garnish with bean sprouts, cilantro, basil, jalapeno, lime, and whatever else you want.

I have not yet cooked the Kabocha Squash but I did receive what looks like an awesome recipe from Mike's Organic Delivery that I cant wait to use:

Balsamic Roasted Kabocha Squash Recipe

Ingredients
1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon olive oil
a pinch salt
1 kabocha squash

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350F.
2. Cut squash into quarters and remove seeds.
3. Use a fork to break up brown sugar and combine with balsamic and salt.
4. Mix in oil.
5. Put squash flesh side up into a baking tray and pour mixture over the
flesh.

6. Rub the sugar in to get it to evenly coat.
7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for an hour.
8. Serve Hot

Mike's Organic Delivery Basket Contents 1/21

Empire Apples
Black Beans
Jerusalem Artichokes
Parsley
Arugula
Spinach
Parsnips
Adirondack Blue Potatoes
Sweet Onions
Golden Beets

This week there was a bunch of cool, new, and different veggies.

This was the first time Ive ever seen Jerusalem Artichokes and they are awesome! They are kind of like half potato half artichoke. I just cut them into slices and roasted them with olive oil, salt, and pepper until they are a little soft but still crunchy

The Golden Beets are also a favorite of mine. Unlike the red beets, the golden beets are not as filled with juice so you can handle them without beet juice getting everywhere. Theyre delicious. I boiled mine, but roasting them is also a great option.

The Adirondack Blue Potatoes are also great. Purple vegetables are packed with nutrients and can only usually be found on farms or at farmers market, not supermarkets. Here is a link by the Denver Post about purple veggies. Purple Vegetables

I grew up in Connecticut and then went to school at the University of Denver. While living in Colorado I got used to farm fresh food. After moving back to CT I feel like local and organic food is more of a back burner topic. Luckily, while living in both states I have had a steady flow of local organic fruits and vegetables.

In CO: Ripe Colorado Produce
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ripe-Colorado-Produce/153504511388004

  • While living in Edwards, CO (Vail Valley) last winter there was an amazing fruit and vegetable stand called Ripe Colorado Produce.  Originally established by Gretchen Schramm, her brother Peter Schramm started helping out last summer.
  • Located directly in front of one of my favorite breweries Crazy Mountain Brewery, I was able to quench both thirst and hunger with craft food and drink.
  • Pete would drive to farms in the lush areas near Paonia, CO and Palisade, CO to pick up the majority of the produce on Monday and Wednesday mornings. I was lucky enough to accompany Pete on a couple of pickups this summer.
In CT: Mike's Organic Delivery
http://www.mikesorganicdelivery.com/
  • When I moved back to CT I met up with an old friend named Chris Kimball. We attended middle school and high school together at Brunswick. He started working for Mike (Also a Brunswick alumnus) about a year ago. Chris told me all about the delivery service and Ive been hooked since!
  • This is the biggest organic delivery service in CT and kind of works like a CSA. They have so many delicious items such as fruits, vegetables, all types of meat, pesto, honey, farm fresh cheeses and even dog treats.
  • I was fortunate to go with Chris on a few pick-ups as well to farms in the Hudson Valley in NY and in CT.
  • The baskets always come with a scrumptious array of fruits and veggies and they deliver them every Tuesday. Mike includes awesome recipes that can be used for the basket contents.

There is nothing like local organic produce.

The fact that it tastes better should be reason enough to consume it but when we consider all of the other benefits it seems like a no-brainer (at least to me):

1. Its great for Our Health
2. Benefits the Environment
3. Safe for the Farmer
4. Supports Local Economy
5. Fuels hard working people

  • We can be assured that our fruits and veggies aren't genetically modified or sprayed with any toxic chemicals. This is great because the fields where the produce are grown are chemical free and therefore the people and other animals who eat the food from the fields won't ingest these chemicals either.
  • Buying local means that we are investing in our local economies and supporting hard working people on these farms who could really need our help.

Every time we buy food we have a choice. We have a choice of either walking into a huge supermarket and "feeding the beast" or supporting farm to table food.

Its not easy sometimes finding out a lot of information about where to get local organic food in your area so I wanted to create a place where some of this information is shared.

Hey! Welcome to Lettuce Turnip the Beetz.

This is a place where I want to turn it up on some of the topics that fascinate me such as: Local and Organic Food, Live Music, Outdoor Activities, Overall Health and Wellness and Travel.  My goal is to provide some information, pictures, videos, links about things that I enjoy. Hopefully it will entertain, maybe it will help.
